Choosing which direction to take after leaving school is a big decision.
All the staff at Hambrook School are here to help getting students ready for the next steps in their learning and careers after leaving us. The Careers Leader at Hambrook School is Danny Kington. Please get in touch with any queries.
Get in TouchThe What…
We have a Careers Programme to help all our students achieve their full potential, whatever they decide to do.
The How and the Why…
Every year our school aims for eight goals with the help of parents and carers, employers, colleges, trainers and others.
They are called The Gatsby Benchmarks and our programme is based around them:
-
- We give you a programme of guidance and activities that will help you to make the best decisions about your future
- We give you up-to-date information on what careers, colleges and training are available in your local area and elsewhere. Click here for more information on the Sussex Learning Network website.
- We give help and advice that is matched to each student, not just the whole class or Year group. We talk to you, to your parents/carers to get the best picture of what you want to achieve in life
- Your future and careers are fully included within all our school subjects, to match your interests and ambitions, and help equip you as best as possible for the outside world
- We organise visits to local places of work and further education. We go to jobs fairs and college open days. Parents/carers also help out with this. People from many different careers come into our school to talk with you about what they do and answer your questions. For example, medical and emergency services, musicians, TV producers, animators, computer games designers and many others
- We give you the chance to spend time in a workplace you are interested in, learning about types of jobs, how to behave and build up your knowledge to help you decide about your own future
- If you want to take your learning beyond school, you have the chance to visit colleges and training centres. There are Open Days and college staff visit the school to talk to you and answer your questions
- You have two meetings during Years 7-11 with the independent Careers Adviser. Working in partnership with your parents/carers, you are encouraged to ‘shine’ and strive to achieve your dreams
The school gets feedback from students, employers, colleges, parents and carers to make sure the Careers Programme is working properly.
This is a two-way process and the voice we want to hear the most is yours!
